Why do you need tuning? And why from me? There are lots of reasons! Once you see that it's for you, then ask yourself, why pay more for less?
Many people do not understand what tuning a car computer is about, or why or when it needs done. Here are some reasons:
Those are just some of the reasons why you would want your PCM tuned! There are others!
Did you know that many "professional tuners" do not touch the areas of the PCM where most driving is done? Many of my customers come to me from other tuners, because they were not satisfied. When I saw what was in their PCMs from those other "tuners," I can understand why.
Most of the time, all that is changed is the timing is jacked up in the WOT areas (many times, to a point where it would cause knock), and the AFR at WOT is leaned out only the slightest bit.
The majority of the tuners either do not touch the timing at part-throttle areas, or actually lessen it which will make the car run even worse than with the stock tune!
What will you gain with me? As mentioned above, with the Power Tune, you will get a smoother running engine in all areas, more HP/torque across the entire RPM band, better throttle response, and even an increase in MPG!
You can enjoy these kinds of benefits and increases with my inexpensive tuning via: new chips for your 1986-1993 GM TBI/TPI/LT1 F- & Y-Body ECMs; reflashing your PCMs for the 1994-1995 OBDI LT1, 1996-1997 OBDII LT1, and 1997-2002 OBDII LS1.
My latest offering is my Cable Loan Power Tune, where I can send you an ALDL cable and software so that you can load my tunes into your own PCM in your vehicle, without having to remove your PCM and ship it to me. This is primarily for the 1994-1995 LT1 PCMs, since they are flash-based; however, I also offer the same package for earlier chip-based TPI/TBI F- & Y-Body vehicles, which will still involve you installing new chips.
Both the above PCM types will still benefit even more from this method because it will allow you to data-log the vehicle while driving, so that I can use that feedback to fine-tune it even further for you, either through email (for '94-'95 LT1s), or with new chips I'll send you through postal mail (for '86-'92 TPI/TBI).
Other places charge as much as $300+ for cookie-cutter tunes for your unique setup. Many of their tunes that I have personally seen could, at the least, leave you with a poor running vehicle, or, at the worst, cause engine damage.
Why pay $300+ for a Hypertech Power Programmer (HPP) or Jet Tuner when its power tuning can risk detonation or reduce your engine's power, and when you can account for new gears/tires for under $100 from me?
Read the Testimonials of my customers and you will see that I've been offering a great service at a great price for years!
I'm absolutely delighted. The car is definitely pulling a lot better.
I'm liking the DFCO, it doesn't have any popping and banging on deceleration, there is no smoke on acceleration and the car is obviously running much leaner now as it was very smelly/running rich beforehand.
I will probably get the software to data log the car and hopefully get you to fine tune on that data.
Thanks for a great job.
Thank you for the page, I'm just starting on my swap, moving a 1994 Impala SS LT1 into a 1992 V6 Camaro RS. I think it will be a lot of fun, but the electronics have me a little concerned and I was real happy to find your page.
I've purchased the TunerCat software as you suggested and am practicing on the V6 just to get the feel for the software.
Again, thanks for the page.
If you send me emails from an @aol.com, @gmail.com or @hotmail.com address, or signup and/or place orders, but do not receive a reply from me or emails from my website, please do not think I am ignoring you! Lately, those email providers are randomly blocking emails from my servers. If you are on Facebook, like my page and contact me from there to ensure I've received your message and request a reply on there. Thank you for your understanding!
Do you need a good tune, but cannot afford the down-time of mailing your PCM to me? Do you not have any interest in long-term tuning where you would need to buy your own equipment and tuning software? Now I can loan you one of my tuning kits to allow me to fine-tune your 1986-2003 PCM to match your individual setup, without you needing to send me your PCM. No more downtime, and a fully tuned vehicle!
You can now have the same tuning tips on my website in a handy, printable PDF format, for easy offline reference (over 20 full pages!).
If you decide you like the idea of tuning on your own, visit TunerCat and purchase the C.A.T.S. Tuner software to get started ($69.95). For working on your '94 or '95 LT1 PCM, you'll also need the $EE definition file ($19.95).
Then just get yourself an OBDI ALDL cable and compatible computer, and you're ready! Use my free "Tips" page or buy the PDF version for a small fee, and get started!
