Why Get Tuned Here?

Why do you need tuning? And why from me? There are lots of reasons! Once you see that it's for you, then ask yourself, why pay more for less?

"Why Do I Need Tuning?"

Many people do not understand what tuning a car computer is about, or why or when it needs done. Here are some reasons:

  • You want to improve full-throttle horsepower and torque, and throttle response, even on your stock engine
  • You want better MPG (miles-per-gallon) for your daily or weekend driver
  • You modified your engine, like with a new cam, heads, different displacement, fuel injectors, or static compression ratio, and the car is now sluggish
  • You swapped an engine into a different vehicle and it won't start/stay running (VATS/anti-theft)
  • You switched from automatic to manual transmission, or vice-versa
  • You want a cooler engine to prevent knock retard and sluggishness, via the fans coming on sooner
  • You changed your tire size and/or rear gears and need your speedometer and/or automatic shifting corrected
  • You disabled some systems like emissions (EGR/AIR), A/C, etc., and want them and their error codes disabled. Did you know that removing the EGR system without reprogramming for it can cause spark timing issues?
  • You want your shift points changed, harder shifts, or your TCC lockup points modified

Those are just some of the reasons why you would want your PCM tuned! There are others!

"Why Should I Get Tuning from You?"

Did you know that many "professional tuners" do not touch the areas of the PCM where most driving is done? Many of my customers come to me from other tuners, because they were not satisfied. When I saw what was in their PCMs from those other "tuners," I can understand why.

Not All Tuning is the Same!

Most of the time, all that is changed is the timing is raised substantially in the WOT areas (many times, to a point where it would cause knock), and the AFR at WOT is leaned out only the slightest bit.

The majority of the tuners either do not touch the timing at part-throttle areas, or change it in a way which will make the car run even worse than with the stock tune! I do my best to adjust things everywhere, based on tuning my own car as well as thousands of others over the years, so that your run car runs better than it did before.

What will you gain with me? As mentioned above, with the Power Tune, you will get a smoother running engine in all areas, more HP/torque across the entire RPM band, better throttle response, and even an increase in MPG!

One customer with a stock internal '94 Z28 gained 26 rwhp with just my tuning!

Another customer with a stock '97 WS6 amazingly gained 4-5 MPG with just my tuning! Even with aggressive driving!

Yet another gained over 2 tenths and nearly 3 MPH in the 1/4 mile on nitrous with my tuning!

While some results can be unusual depending on the setup, common gains seem to be in the range of 1-3 MPG and 20-30 rwhp, based on many reports of picking up 2-3 tenths and MPH in the 1/4 mile, as well as some dyno results.

You can enjoy these kinds of benefits and increases with my inexpensive tuning via: new chips for your 1986-1993 GM TBI/TPI/LT1 F- & Y-Body ECMs; reflashing your PCMs for the 1994-1995 OBDI LT1, 1996-1997 OBDII LT1, and 1997-2002 OBDII LS1.

Through Postal Mail:
Chip: $100-$200 - OBDI: $100-$200 - OBDII: $100-$225

Prices above include FREE USPS Priority Mail return shipping
and one free retune!

Through Email:
OBDI: $200 - OBDII: $200-$250

Prices above include three free retunes based on your feedback and scan logs!

Tuning With No Down-Time!

My latest offering is my Cable Loan Power Tune, where I can send you an ALDL cable and software so that you can load my tunes into your own PCM in your vehicle, without having to remove your PCM and ship it to me. This is primarily for the 1994-1995 LT1 PCMs, since they are flash-based; however, I also offer the same package for earlier chip-based TPI/TBI F- & Y-Body vehicles, which will still involve you installing new chips.

Both the above PCM types will still benefit even more from this method because it will allow you to data-log the vehicle while driving, so that I can use that feedback to fine-tune it even further for you, either through email (for '94-'95 LT1s), or with new chips I'll send you through postal mail (for '86-'92 TPI/TBI).

1997-2003 LS1/Vortec: $300 for 7 business days (Mon-Fri, no legal holidays) of unlimited tuning
1996-1997 LT1/L99: $275 for 7 business days (Mon-Fri, no legal holidays) of unlimited tuning
1994-1995 LT1/L99: $275 for 7 business days (Mon-Fri, no legal holidays) of unlimited tuning
1986-1993 TPI/TBI/LT1: $275 for 7 business days (Mon-Fri, no legal holidays) of unlimited tuning

Other places charge as much as $300+ for cookie-cutter tunes for your unique setup. Many of their tunes that I have personally seen could, at the least, leave you with a poor running vehicle, or, at the worst, cause engine damage.

Why pay $300+ for a Hypertech Power Programmer (HPP) or Jet Tuner when its power tuning can risk detonation or reduce your engine's power, and when you can account for new gears/tires for under $100 from me?

Read the Testimonials of my customers and you will see that I've been offering a great service at a great price for years!

1994 Camaro Z28

All I can say is wow. THAT WAS AMAZING. I honestly no lie can say I firmly believe that added 35 hp and I don't know how much but there is definitely a difference in torque.

I mean it, I wasn't expecting near that much power. You're the man.

Tips Testimonials

Thank you for the page, I'm just starting on my swap, moving a 1994 Impala SS LT1 into a 1992 V6 Camaro RS. I think it will be a lot of fun, but the electronics have me a little concerned and I was real happy to find your page.

I've purchased the TunerCat software as you suggested and am practicing on the V6 just to get the feel for the software.

Again, thanks for the page.
